Christmas Crafts: Printable Festive Lacing Cards

Christmas is just around the corner and it’s time to start planning presents and cards for your family and friends. To give you a helping hand, we’ve teamed up with RedTedArt, one of our favourite craft bloggers, to bring you some festive, printable, lacing Christmas Cards.The cards are not only seasonal and beautifully designed, but educational too. This is a great activity for talking to very little ones about shapes as well as being a fun and creative introduction to geometry and STEM learning. They’re great for all ages and abilities - you can make the lacing as simple or as intricate as you like, depending on the age of your children.Lacing is also great for developing fine motor skills, improving hand-eye coordination and practicing problem solving. It also gets children used to concentrating on a specific task.

They are a breeze to do and the whole family can get involved. Once completed, the cards make great gifts for friends, family and teachers alike. Grandparents will love the care and attention that goes into these Christmassy creations and you’ll love the learning benefits:
- Explore basic shapes with younger children.
- Talk about primary colours and mixing if you’re painting or colouring your own.
- Great for fine motor skills, practised through colouring, and of course, lacing.
- Practise creative thinking and develop your little artist's eye for design.
- Improve and practise concentration.
- Practise problem solving if something goes wrong during the activity.
What you'll need:
- Our free Christmas Lacing Cards printable designed by RedTedArt (download below).
- Card (make sure it fits in your printer!) or paper and cereal box.
- Scissors to cut out the designs.
- Needle, knitting needle or toothpick to pre-prick lacing holes.
- Glue to stick to cardboard or light cardstock.
- Laces, wool, ribbon or lace in desired colours.
- Colouring pens, pencils or paints.
- Accessories (such as glitter stone stickers).
Downloads:
Choose black and white designs that you can colour and make your own, or, if you’re short on time, we’ve included coloured versions that you can just print off!Print the designs onto thin card (make sure it fits into your printer), or, if you don’t want to splash out on special card, use paper. If you use paper, cut out your completed or coloured designs and stick them onto cards made from cereal boxes.

Get making!
Be as creative as you like! Use glitter, glitter glue or sticky gems to make your designs stand out. They also double up as Christmas Tree decorations, so you can make as many or as little as you like!
