Celebrating Global Money Week with Toys and Games!
- Sophie Hibberd Posted On Mar 25, 2019 | National Holidays
Global Money Week (GMW) is an annual financial awareness campaign built to inspire children and young people to learn about money matters, livelihoods and entrepreneurship.
The earlier children learn about money, the better they willmanage their finances through their lives. Money skills help children learn thedifference between earning, saving, and spending which will in time, help themto budget and have healthier money habits.
During GMW, organisations including financial institutions, local businesses, universities, schools and more, work together to organisedifferent types of activities for children to spark excitement around the topicof money.
There are so many products that are fun and exciting but also educational. We have a selection of money toys and games that will have your little ones understanding, counting and spending money in no time. They won’t even realise they are learning!

The Wise Owl Teaching Bank is a fantastic way to teach yourlittle one how to save, spend and share their pennies. There are three sectionsthat money can be added to by popping it through the slots in the front, ordropping it into the top slot and letting the owl decide.
The great thing about this ‘piggy’ bank is that itencourages children to think about their money from an early age and developssocial wellbeing with the share section. Children can use it for charitydonations, people in need or local services.
Encourage your little one to count their pennies before dropping them into the novelty money box. This will extend the learning and reinforce coin value recognition, all while having fun!

Game play suggestion:
Money Match
- Ensure cards are placed coin side down
- The youngest player starts by spinning the spinner and carrying out the action it lands on. If they land on pick up card/s, the player picks a card from the top of the pile looking at the side with the coins. The player must find the plastic coins in the pile that match the coins on the card. If they can make a correct match, they put the coins into the bank and keep the card. If they do not make a correct match, the card gets put at the bottom of the pile (coin side down) and the coins are returned.
- It is then the next player’s turn. Players take turns spinning the spinner and carrying out the action it lands on. The first player to collect 10 cards wins!
- For a shorter game, the first player to collect five cards wins
